Hydrogen network plans in Limburg
The Ministry of Climate and Green Growth, together with Gasunie subsidiary Hynetwork, has announced plans for the construction of the hydrogen network in Limburg.
The future hydrogen network in Limburg will supply the region's industry with hydrogen. Furthermore, the Chemelot industrial cluster will be connected to other major industrial areas in the Netherlands and to the hydrogen storage facility in Zuidwending.
The Limburg hydrogen network will run underground. The starting point for the realization of this network is the reuse of existing natural gas pipelines. In other words: focusing on reuse where possible and new construction where necessary. For instance, the intention is to repurpose existing natural gas pipelines between Ravenstein and Schinnen. New construction will take place between Melick and the Hommelhof area, including a branch to the Chemelot chemical complex. This will connect Limburg to the national hydrogen network, with future connections toward Germany and Belgium.
In the coming weeks, Hynetwork and the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth will organize several information sessions (walk-in evenings) for local residents and other interested parties.
