Fountain Fuel receives €13.6 million subsidy for hydrogen truck consortia
The Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management has awarded €13.6 million in subsidies under the Hydrogen in Mobility scheme (SWiM) to the consortia associated with Fountain Fuel. More than 80 companies have now joined this collaboration to make the transition to hydrogen.
By choosing a hydrogen-powered fleet, often in combination with electric transport, logistics companies can make their operations more sustainable by selecting the technology that best suits their business. The subsidy covers up to 80% of the price difference between diesel-powered and hydrogen-powered mobility. This enables companies to purchase a hydrogen truck for approximately €160,000 to €225,000, depending on the specifications and the manufacturer selected.
The allocation of SWiM funding means that more hydrogen-powered vehicles, including trucks, are appearing on the roads and that the number of refuelling stations is increasing. The growing number of stations is making hydrogen an increasingly attractive option alongside battery-electric transport.
Since the launch of this subsidy programme in 2024, the available budgets have been significantly oversubscribed. This year, applications totalled more than €80 million, compared with an available budget of just over €44 million. Fountain Fuel was one of the parties participating in the subsidy programme. Following the award of the new subsidy to Fountain Fuel’s consortia, more than 80 companies are now involved.
